Trump Calls for Unity Across America, Pelosi and Schumer's Response is Typical

In light of all the bombs being sent out to Democrats and other individuals who opposed his presidency, Donald Trump has come out and made a plea for unity, which, of course, is exactly what he needs to do in a situation like this, as it’s the right course of action.

Unfortunately, leadership on the left is not wanting to participate in such a call, as clearly noted by both Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s response to Trump’s statement.

The packages, none of which exploded, were addressed to Democratic donor George Soros, former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former CIA Director John Brennan and former Attorney General Eric Holder, the FBI said in a statement.

Trump on Wednesday called for unity and pledged to “spare no expenses” to “bring those responsible for these despicable acts to justice.”

“I want to say at these times we have to unify and send one very clear and strong message that acts of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America,” Trump added.

“President Trump’s words ring hollow until he reverses his statements that condone acts of violence,” the Democratic leaders said in a joint statement released late Wednesday afternoon.

“Time and time again, the President has condoned physical violence and divided Americans with his words and his actions: expressing support for the Congressman who body-slammed a reporter, the neo-Nazis who killed a young woman in Charlottesville, his supporters at rallies who get violent with protestors, dictators around the world who murder their own citizens, and referring to the free press as the enemy of the people,” Schumer and Pelosi continued.

The statement crafted by the pair comes just one day after Schumer stated the need for a bipartisan response to recent political violence, seeming to indicate he was willing to work with folks across the aisle to bring this situation to a close:

“Make no mistake: Despicable acts of violence and harassment are being carried out by radicals across the political spectrum—not just by one side,” Schumer wrote in a tweet Tuesday. “Regardless of who is responsible, these acts are wrong and must be condemned by Democrats and Republicans alike. Period.”

Whoever is beyond this atrocious act needs to be held accountable for their actions and stopped before they legitimately hurt innocent people, which is something folks from both sides of the aisle can get behind.

Let’s hope this situation draws to a close and no one is hurt.
