Over the course of then next several weeks, our nation will face an ideological conflict like few other in our lengthy history, and the rhetoric on both sides will certainly turn tawdry in the interim.

The issue at hand are the events of January 6th, 2021, and what exactly they mean for our democracy.  On the left, we are being told that this was an attempted coup, plotted and executed by right-wing forces hellbent on usurping the power of the electorate.

But, for those on the right who believe that the 2020 election was stolen, this was a necessary conflict to preserve the republic itself.

As the January 6th select committee begins their first public hearings detailing the evidence that they’ve uncovered, former President Donald Trump is making a bold statement on the matter.

“January 6th was not simply a protest, it represented the greatest movement in the history of our Country to Make America Great Again,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

“It was about an Election that was Rigged and Stolen, and a country that was about to go to HELL.”

The former Commander in Chief wasn’t done there, either.

Later in his statement, Trump went on to lambast the “political thugs” at the helm of the committee, whose investigation Trump has described as a witch hunt.

Many Republicans also ascribe to Trump’s belief, and have suggested that the committee is using their investigation to dig up dirt for use in the 2022 and 2024 elections.
