The nation is still reeling from the unprecedented FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago just weeks ago, but former President Donald Trump isn’t just sitting around twiddling his thumbs about it.
Trump, who decried the raid as a breach of the public trust and yet another likely witch hunt against him, has now filed a lawsuit seeking to gain further information regarding precisely what it is that the FBI absconded with.
Former President Trump on Monday filed a motion seeking an independent review of the documents seized from his Mar-a-Lago estate during an FBI raid earlier this month.Advertisement - story continues below
Per Trump’s motion, his legal seeks an order that appoints a special master, enjoins further review of seized materials by the government until a Special Master is appointed, requires the Government to provide a more detailed receipt for property and requires the government to return any item seized that was not within the scope of the search warrant.
The former Commander in Chief previewed the suit last week.
Trump had indicated last week that he would file a major motion pertaining to the Fourth Amendment concerning the “illegal” break-in of his home.
“My rights, together with the rights of all Americans, have been violated at a level rarely seen before in our country,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social Post on Friday.
Officers who besieged Mar-a-Lago had originally taken several of Trump’s passports with them, but were later forced to return them as they were not covered in the search warrant.
There are fears that the raid was designed to allow for an overreach by the agency, in order for the Biden administration to get their hands on unrelated materials that could be used to damage Donald Trump’s reelection hopes.
