Now, in an effort to further diffuse the situation, the President is pushing a new and extremely sharp tactic.

In a scant few days, our President will be facing a legal and humanitarian crisis the likes of which this generation has never seen.

Approaching precariously from the south is a massive horde of Central American migrants, many from Honduras and beyond, who are currently sauntering through the elements in Mexico on their way to the USA.  Despite the legal ramifications of their actions, they continue, with many participants openly admitting that they plan to cross the border outside of the official channels once they arrive.

In response, President Trump has ordered our military to the border, with personnel estimates climbing into the thousands just this week.

Now, in an effort to further diffuse the situation, the President is pushing a new and extremely sharp tactic.

President Trump plans to sign an executive order that would remove the right to citizenship for babies of non-citizens and unauthorized immigrants born on U.S. soil, he said yesterday in an exclusive interview for “Axios on HBO,” a new four-part documentary news series debuting on HBO this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT.

Why it matters: This would be the most dramatic move yet in Trump’s hardline immigration campaign, this time targeting “anchor babies” and “chain migration.” And it will set off another stand-off with the courts, as Trump’s power to do this through executive action is debatable to say the least.

The move is a curiously timed one, if nothing else.

With the President certainly understanding the sort of political fodder that a move like this would make, his choice to announce such an action in this proximity to the midterm elections is a bold sign of confidence in the American electorate.  Now we can only wait to learn the fate of the Central American migrants who are marching en masse through Mexico to ‘Merica.
