Trump Responds After J6 Committee Drops Subpoena
For many Americans, it has been plainly obvious that the ultimate goal of the January 6th select committee was to injure the political future of former President Donald Trump, despite the plethora of assurances that accompanied the formative days of the probe.
The group was even so bold as to issue a subpoena of the former President himself, although common sense and a brief moment of historical research would have shown them that this would never work.
And so, as they predictably withdraw their request to hear from the 45th President of these United States, Trump himself has something to say about the whole ordeal.
In a letter sent to Trump attorney David Warrington, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the January 6 Committee, said that the subpoena he issued to Trump back in October would no longer be pursued.
“As you may know, the Select Committee has concluded its hearings, released its final report and will very soon reach its end. In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena,” Thompson wrote.
“Therefore, through this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump, and notify you that he is no longer obligated to comply or produce records in response to said subpoena,” it added. “We appreciate your engagement with the Select Committee on this matter.”
Trump explained a potential reason for the sudden withdrawal.
Trump has not been charged with any crime in connection to January 6th, despite criminal referrals to the Justice Department made weeks ago by the J6 committee.
