Over the course of the last year, the American people have endured a multitude of accusations against former President Donald Trump, some of which have been abjectly preposterous on their face.
We have to remember that this is an elected official who had a barely-fictional affliction named after him – Trump Derangement Syndrome – in which the afflicted would simply fly off the handle at the very mention of the 45th President of the United States. Their President at the time.
Now that’s he’s out of office, (and off of Twitter), it appears as though his detractors have been mightily emboldened, and they’ve even begun to suggest that Trump was flushing important White House documents down the toilet during his time in the Oval Office.
If this sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is – at least according to Donald Trump himself.
Congress on Wednesday opened an investigation into President Trump’s handling of White House records after he denied a report that he flushed official documents down the toilet and insisted he handed over boxes to the National Archives willingly.Trending:
‘Also, another fake story, that I flushed papers and documents down a White House toilet, is categorically untrue and simply made up by a reporter in order to get publicity for a mostly fictitious book,’ he wrote in a statement Thursday morning.
National Archives officials recovered 15 boxes of White House materials from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence – in apparent contravention of federal records acts – and reports emerged this month that the former president would often rip official documents and send others to be incinerated at the Pentagon.
Trump’s team was quick to release the materials back to the National Archives this week, stating that there was no nefarious intent meant. It was a simple matter of not having the proper guidance at the time.
