With Donald Trump careening into phase two of this 2024 campaign unopposed, any potential competition will need to make some serious decisions, and soon, regarding their own plans for the next electoral cycle.
Sure, many are waiting to see if the former President will be indicted by the DOJ, the Georgia AG, or some other establishment institution that has been targeting him. These possible candidates don’t want to waste too many resources attacking Trump is the Biden administration will do the dirty work for them.
But they can’t wait too long, and there is plenty of speculation about the possibility of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis entering the race. His polling is great, he has megadonors behind him, and he’s capable of sounding downright presidential at times.
Donald Trump is not worried, however. And he’s not afraid to say so.
Former President Trump said in an interview this week that he’s prepared to “handle” a potential challenge from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.Trending:
Speaking on “The Water Pooler” podcast with host David Brody, Trump took credit for DeSantis’ rising political fortunes, noting that his endorsement in 2018 catapulted DeSantis to the front of the pack in the Republican gubernatorial primary.
Trump needn’t be subtle, it seems.
“I got him elected, pure and simple,” Trump said, boasting that his rallies for DeSantis helped get out the vote in what turned out to be a narrow victory over Democrat Andrew Gillum.
“So, now I hear he might want to run against me, so we’ll handle that the way I handle things,” Trump said.
If you’re Ron DeSantis, that’s the last thing you want to hear from Donald Trump’s mouth at the moment, and this could give pause to the Sunshine State lawmaker as he considers his political aspirations.
