If you dig deep enough into the QAnon ethos, (which isn’t exactly a task for the faint of heart), you will likely find yourself getting a good bit of education about the Insurrection Act. Namely, how President Donald Trump was secretly planning to use the act to kick of a chain of events that would bring his alleged war against the Deep State to a crescendo.
As we know now, that didn’t happen….but it almost did.
As protesters near the White House demonstrated against the killing of George Floyd last summer, aides were preparing a proclamation allowing President Trump to put active-duty US troops on the streets of the capital. The document was drafted after an angry Trump told the attorney general and military leaders he wanted to deploy troops in the city on June 1, the New York Times reports. They dissuaded the president, but aides decided to have the proclamation at hand, should Trump change his mind. The Insurrection Act of 1807 gives the president the power to dispatch military and National Guard troops anywhere in the country, per the Hill, in the event of insurrection or civil unrest. That was the day that protesters were forcibly removed from Lafayette Park, across from the White House, and Trump held up a Bible outside St. John’s Church, per CNN.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he was not in favor of using the act, and has suggested that any reporting to the contrary is false.
As If The Matt Gaetz Case Couldn’t Get Any Weirder…
This case has more twists and turns than snake convention.
Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz has done something astounding during his brief career in politics: Come up with a scandal so bizarre that Hollywood would have deemed a fictional re-telling of the tale “too unbelievable”. The story so far, (which has been evolving in perpetuity), is that Gaetz and a friend had participated in the trafficking of underage girls for sex, (albeit unknowingly), and that this story came to light after Gaetz was unable to help an extortionist search for a long-missing FBI agent. Or something thereabouts. The accounts vary wildly in the case. Now, as if things couldn’t get any stranger, a new angle has emerged in the case. A sugar daddy website linked to the sex-trafficking investigation of Matt Gaetz publicly weighed in on the scandal, saying the lawmaker has never been registered on the site in search of young women. The unusual move by the web site SeekingArrangement puts some distance between Gaetz and the accusation against him. The site had been caught up in the Gaetz case because it had reportedly been used by the GOP lawmaker and another key player in the case to connect with an underage girl for sex. SeekingArrangement, which helps “sugar babies” connect online with men, released a statement because of yet another odd twist in the case: The former mistress of golfer Tiger Woods sued the website claiming it wrongfully terminated her contract as the company’s spokesperson. The plaintiff, Rachel Uchitel, said she was fired because SeekingArrangement was in damage control due to the investigation into Gaetz, which is unrelated to her lawsuit. Gaetz has maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal, but a plea deal from one of his alleged accomplices has some wondering if the Sunshine State lawmaker isn’t in some serious trouble.
Trump Weighs in on Cleveland Baseball Name Change…and It’s Not Pretty
The former President was NOT happy!
Donald Trump, like a great many conservatives around the nation, isn’t all that thrilled with the way in which our national culture is changing. Of course, this isn’t terribly surprising given that this is the nature of conserving, to allow things to remain the same or to work to bring the nation back to the way it was. So, almost predictably, Trump had plenty to say about the recent change announced by the Cleveland Indians baseball team. In a statement, Trump wrote that he is a “FORMER” baseball fan and said “a small group of people, with absolutely crazy ideas and policies, is forcing these changes to destroy our culture and heritage.” The name change came after years of protests from Native American groups and baseball fans. The former President had a far different opinion than many. Trump’s statement said he thought the name was an “honor.” However, the Lake Erie Native American Council released a statement supporting the team’s new name, WTOL reports. “We are pleased the Cleveland baseball team took a comprehensive approach to listen and learn and show it is possible to take steps toward change,” the statement read. The name change came just months after the Washington Redskins dropped their own mascot to temporarily become the “Washington Football Team”, just until a new moniker could be decided upon.
