Twitter Suspends Kanye After Tweet Threatening 'Jewish People'
In the modern cult of celebrity, those who’ve achieved any sort of national status are doing so ever more frequently via pure, abject controversy – regardless of whatever merit, (or lack of merit), that they bring to table.
This has been growing ever truer as the internet age continues to evolve, and we find ourselves being entertained by the quasi-celebrities of TikTok and Instagram.
At the top of the pop culture heap, salacious behavior is worth big bucks, and no one knows this better than hip hop superstar Kanye West. This week, the rapper who now goes by simply “Ye”, went too far for Twitter, however.
Instagram and now Twitter have both restricted the account of Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West.
Twitter confirmed to NPR on Monday that the company has locked the account for violating Twitter’s policies. A spokesperson would not comment on how long the restrictions would be in place.
Meta, which owns Instagram, told NPR on Sunday that it removed content that violated policies. It didn’t specify which posts were responsible for the restrictions.
Here’s where it went off the rails:
Ye responded to the Instagram restrictions with a now deleted tweet, writing:
“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda”
West made headlines just days prior as well, after being photographed at Paris Fashion Week wearing a shirt with the words “White Lives Matter” printed on it.
