US Air Force Set to Lead NATO Nuke Drills Over Europe

Vladimir Putin certainly likes to prod and provoke the world at large, seemingly seeing himself as some sort of master-villain on the global stage. And, for years, he was able to avoid any sort of retort due to the belief that the Russian military was nigh unstoppable.

But, thanks to Russia’s continued failures in Ukraine, we now know that this reputation was built with smoke and mirrors, not military might.  This has led the rest of the world to downgrade their fears of Putin, and created an opportunity for the US and NATO to reiterate their military dominance.

And they’re going to do it right in Putin’s backyard.

U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bombers will lead fighter jets from Belgium, Germany, and 12 other countries across Europe’s skies on annual nuclear exercises Monday, amid reports Russia has increased the number of strategic bombers close to its border with NATO-member state Norway.

The annual NATO training is going ahead despite rising fears President Vladimir Putin might consider a real nuclear strike in Ukraine.

The assets included are some of the world’s most advanced; a stark contrast to Russian civilians being forcibly conscripted and transported to Ukraine in 70-year-old tanks.

Up to 60 aircraft are taking part in training flights alongside the American long-range, subsonic, jet-powered strategic bombers over Belgium, the North Sea and Britain to practise the use of U.S. nuclear bombs based in Europe, Reuters reports.

Putin’s redundant nuclear rhetoric has been almost universally dismissed by the international community, including by US President Joe Biden, who last week stated the he simply doesn’t believe that the Kremlin would resort to such an atrocity.
