US Officials Says China's Space Tech Developing at 'Twice' America's Speed
In this enormous world of ours, where many a nation is hoping to get the upper hand on one another militarily, there are but a few countries that could truly challenge the United States’ technological supremacy. And, unfortunately, neither of the seem to be all that keen on playing nice with the rest of the world.
First there is, of course, Russia, whose ill will toward the US is apparent in the fact that they’ve had their entire nuke arsenal aimed at us for six decades.
And then there’s China, who the world had long considered to be a threat only in the event of a land war, and only on account of the population of their military and Beijing’s long-understood disregard for human life.
In 2021, however, a new threat is taking flight in the far east.
Gen. David Thompson, vice chief of space operations for the US Space Force, said Saturday China is developing its space capabilities at “twice the rate” of the US.
On a panel of US space experts and leaders speaking at the Reagan National Defense Forum in a panel moderated by CNN’s Kristin Fisher, Gen. Thompson warned China could overtake the US in space capabilities by the end of the decade.
A major milestone could be reached in an alarmingly short amount of time.
“The fact, that in essence, on average, they are building and fielding and updating their space capabilities at twice the rate we are means that very soon, if we don’t start accelerating our development and delivery capabilities, they will exceed us,” Gen. Thompson said, adding, “2030 is not an unreasonable estimate.”
China’s recent launch of a hypersonic missile was seen by world experts as a major advancement for the communist regime, and that device’s ability to launch a second projectile while in flight has baffled Pentagon experts.
