A gun control group known as “Guns Down America,” has been hard at work creating a campaign designed to urge anti-gun folks to text local authorities if they happen to see any individuals practicing their Second Amendment rights near a polling area.
What is their reasoning for making such a request? The group cites concerns over the current political climate that exists under President Trump.
USA Today quoted Guns Down America director Igor Volsky saying, “Given the troubling political rhetoric we’ve seen over the last two years, and that guns are far too easy to obtain, this campaign will help the majority of Americans who believe that fewer guns keeps us safer fight back and cast their ballots free from fear of intimidation.”Advertisement - story continues below
Volsky wants citizens to text “Guns Down” to 91990 to report armed citizens.
Ironically, Volsky did not not mention former Attorney General Eric Holder’s recent comments about his political opponents, wherein Holder said, “When they go low, we kick ’em.”
If our Founding Fathers were alive today, there’s a pretty good chance they would be appalled about how large we’ve allowed the federal government to grow over the last two hundred plus years.
These individuals risked their lives, gave up their fortunes, shed their own blood to win our independence, to provide us with a limited government chained by a constitution that protected our God-given rights, including the right to bear arms. Yet, here we are, allowing these same rights to have so many government regulations placed on them it’s almost impossible to put them into practice.
The Second Amendment exists to protect us from tyranny, to enable us to have the means of protecting life and liberty from an out of control government. It also allows us to defend ourselves from dangerous criminals who, like the government, want to take what we’ve worked hard for without permission.
What this group is advocating for is more restrictions on this right, a principle that in and of itself flies in the face of everything this nation was founded on.
How far we seem to have fallen.
