WWIII WATCH: Iran Now Providing Drones to Russia
From the very onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were fears that the conflict could spiral out of control, and potentially drag a number of international players into the mix.
In fact, there were pundits in the early days of the conflict warning that we could soon see World War III, as authoritarian regimes around the globe line up to back Russia’s play. This included China, North Korea, and Iran as potential allies.
The White House is now suggesting that Iran may already be involved with Russia’s war, setting up a dangerous new international issue.
The White House on Monday said it believes Russia is turning to Iran to provide it with “hundreds” of unmanned aerial vehicles, including weapons-capable drones, for use in its ongoing war in Ukraine.
U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said it was unclear whether Iran had already provided any of the unmanned systems to Russia, but said the U.S. has “information” that indicates Iran is preparing to train Russian forces to use them as soon as this month.
“Our information indicates that the Iranian government is preparing to provide Russia with up to several hundred UAVs, including weapons-capable UAVs on an expedited timeline,” he told reporters Monday.
The timing of the revelation is a convenient one for the Biden administration, as the Commander in Chief prepares to head to the middle east for meetings with leaders in both Israel and Saudi Arabia – two nations who have their own issues with Iran’s behavior.
