Zelesnkyy Humiliates Putin with Pithy '48 Hours' Remark
It has been six weeks and some change since Russia decided to try their hand at invading Ukraine, after months of armor-gathering preludes that were broadcast to televisions around the world via satellite.
We all knew that it was coming. And, we pretty much all thought that it would be over in a matter of days, maybe a week.
For his part, Russian President Dictator Vladimir Putin was convinced that he would be taking the capital of Kyiv within 48 hours of launching the invasion.
48 days later, and the still-President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has a message for the Kremlin.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mocked Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion Wednesday, questioning how many will need to die before he gives up.
“Do you remember how Russia bragged that they would seize Kyiv in 48 hours? Instead, Ukraine has been repelling the enemy for 48 days,” he said in an address to the nation.
He then turned to a more serious tone:
“They say they do everything for the sake of the people, for the sake of Donbas, but even during World War II, Donbas did not see such cruelty in such a short time,” he continued. “In Donbas, the story of the siege of Leningrad was repeated. What would the people who died or almost died in Leningrad during the Nazi blockade say about this? What would they say about the blockade of Mariupol?”
Zelenskyy has remained in Kyiv throughout the ordeal, and has become a beloved and heroic figure in much of global pop culture on account of his actions.
